The hospitality industry is big business across Southeast Asia and while occupancy rates dip and soar reflecting tourism statistics, the future of the industry remains to be seen.

This discussion will focus on the experience of some of Bangkok’s key leaders in hospitality. We will talk about the future of the industry in Southeast Asia, brainstorm ideas on where the hospitality industry might be headed as well as discussing the key factors of business success for the industry.

Our speakers for this discussion will be Jacqui Cuthbertson – Compass SkyView Hotel, ChooLeng Goh – Plaza Athénée Bangkok, Anchalika Kijkanakorn – AKARYN HOTEL GROUP and Naowarat Arunkong (Bee) -Anantara Sathorn Bangkok, Oaks Bangkok Sathorn, and Avani Khon Kaen Hotel & Convention Centre. The discussion will be led by Wimintra Jangnin of Hotelintel.co.

PANELISTS

Jacqui Cuthbertson is the General Manager of Compass SkyView Hotel. Jacqui’s career spans over 20 years starting in Food & Beverage managing Michelin Star restaurants through to football stadium catering before specializing in rooms division and General Management across both long and short stay market segments. Management of Finance, Business Development, Sales, Revenue Management, Operations, Food & Beverage and most importantly people and change – a hands on hospitality executive with cross cultural experience over 4 countries. Her career path has progressed through a key interest in her chosen field, a self-desire to achieve and excel and never leave a job un-done. Currently GM of Compass SkyView Hotel in Prom Phong Bangkok her skills are driving an iconic property featuring Vanilla Sky Rooftop Bar and Mojjo Lounge Bar.

 

ChooLeng Goh has been a General Manager of Plaza Athénée Bangkok, A Royal Méridien Hotel for the last 7 years. The hotel is a 374-rooms hotel, with 28 function rooms (2,724sqm). Hotel consist of 500 associates. She has been appointed with an extended responsibility of managing Le Méridien Bangkok; a 282 room hotel. ChooLeng had been selected as 1 of 4 Female Leader representatives from Asia to join the former Starwood Global Female Leadership Forum. With her passion for sustainability and hospitality industry, she did clearly fuel herself and her team’s dynamic and determined professional. Ms. ChooLeng always goes further above the call of duty, taking on the job of Chairperson of Services Development – Thailand Incentive Convention & Association (TICA) during 2010-2017 before she has been appointed as the Co-chairperson of Marketing and helping the hotel become the first ISO accredited hotel in the world, boosting the property’s competitive advantage. ChooLeng is not only great leader at work but also be amazing mother of 2 teenage 18 years and 14 years old. Apart from her family and professional work. ChooLeng is spends time speaking in Universities of Thailand on Career Advisory, Hospitality and Sustainable related topics.

 

Valerie Marina Barrios is the Director of Loyalty, Upper Southeast Asia for AccorHotels. Valerie leads marketing promotions, programming initiatives and hotel operations on behalf of Le Club AccorHotels, the global loyalty program of AccorHotels. Her region of Upper Southeast Asia includes over 100 hotels in Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, the Philippines and the Maldives. Prior to joining AccorHotels in 2015, she held positions with branding and hospitality firms in New York City, Chicago and Bangkok, and received a Master in Business Administration with concentrations in Marketing and Finance from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University. She has also lived and worked in San Francisco, Paris and Manila, and graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in History from the Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences at Northwestern University. Valerie is passionate about empowering fellow women with the confidence, opportunities and resources to break barriers and become their best selves – both personally and professionally, and leads gender equality initiatives for AccorHotels in Upper Southeast Asia.

 

Naowarat Arunkong (Bee), Cluster General Manager of Anantara Sathorn Bangkok, Oaks Bangkok Sathorn, and Avani Khon Kaen Hotel & Convention Centre, was the first Thai female general manager to serve with the renowned Anantara Hotels, Resorts, and Spas in 2011 when she joined Anantara Hua Hin Resort & Spa. In 1990, Naowarat started her career in hospitality industry as an intern in Housekeeping division at Hilton Park Nai Lert hotel, through constant hard work and dedication, she was appointed to a full-time housekeeper. During this time, she also enrolled at Wyneberg academy for a secretary certificate programme. Afterward, Naowarat was promoted to Linen Attendant and Clerk. While working, she had an opportunity to attend a training in reservation department and later was appointed as reservation agent. After working in the department for a while, Naowarat was promoted to Room Division Coordinator at the Hilton.  Later, she decided to join Royal Garden hotel, which was later rebranded to Bangkok Marriott Resort & Spa and then Anantara Bangkok Riverside Resort & Spa, as Director of Reservation, overseeing five hotels under the Marriott brand. Later she was promoted to Hotel Manager and then General Manager within four years.
